The Scholastica Arcanum is an ancient organization, founded by some of the first mortal wizards to discover inter-sphere travel in order to share their arcane knowledge. Over the eons it has expanded into a magical work-study program, a library of magical lore and museum of artifacts, and a peacekeeping and watchdog group. On many worlds, the Scholastica partners with the Aetherium to promote arcane research.
The Scholastica Arcanum considers one of its most important missions to be supporting those who are just beginning their path into magical studies. Fledgling mages who apprentice to the Scholastica can expect room & board and supervised access to its vast library of spells, knowledge, and enchanted items in exchange for adhering to the group's rules and undertaking missions and research trips upon request. Not only does this advance the organization's goals of fostering magical knowledge, it helps to bring developing mages within its fold and guidance, decreasing the likelihood of them discovering dark and dangerous paths to power.
The Scholastica overwhelmingly favors wizards and artificers. Clerics of knowledge and magic are welcomed with minimal condescension. Sorcerers and warlocks are viewed with a great deal of suspicion, and often are only accepted with the goal of keeping them out of trouble, although a few have earned respect amongst the scholarly archmages.
With both organizations being oriented towards learning and discovery, the Scholastica Arcanum and the Seekers of the Aetherium generally enjoy an easy partnership, in many cases sharing facilities. Over time, the Scholastica has adopted the Aetherium's edict of non-interference with pre-spaceflight civilizations, having learned that it is rare for these cultures to posses truly revolutionary magical knowledge that it would be worth imperiling the mages' relationship with the Aetherium to obtain. Rumor persists that the High Archmagi do occasionally sanction elite teams to undertake more direct involvement with an off-limits world in cases where they are discovered to have unique or dangerous magical powers, however.
It is no secret to any who have witnessed it that magic can unleash terrible destruction and even shatter reality in the wrong hands. One of the goals of the Scholastica Arcanum, albeit one usually limited to its highest-ranking, most capable members, is monitoring the involvement of powerful spellcasters and arcane entities in cosmic affairs. While they can't stop every aspiring lich lord who aims to sacrifice a backwater world's population to fuel their ascension, the Scholastica does work to prevent the unleashing of “spells of interplanetary destruction and non-localized reality restructuring”. While this sometimes involves recruiting and supporting elite adventurers in stopping powerful evil mages and demigods, it also entails encouraging strong mages to stay out of cosmic conflicts. Keeping those who can blow up planets with their brain from getting involved in wars goes a long ways towards keeping planets from being blown up, and the last time the Scholastica Arcanum sanctioned the full military engagement of its archmages was during the Yeenoghu's Roar gnoll crisis.
